41 Club AGM ~ 8th April 2014

It's that time of year again, when we dress up and interrupt the 41 Club AGM, this year to welcome Alan Cavill as their new Chairman.  Our theme was 'pirates', the nickname of Bristol Rovers, Alan's favourite football team.
A quick drink and a practise of the song, before we set off for the Langley Arms.

For those who missed the song....

Song for Alan (to the tune of ‘Edelweiss’)

You’re Chairman now, of forty-one. Alan, have you told Liz yet?
She’s been your wife, for most of your life,
You really don’t want her up-set.

Forty years of wedded bliss, it will be in September.
So note the date, we’re telling you mate,
It’s a date to remember.

You love to watch the Rovers play.  You are their number one fan-an.
You shout at the ref, until he’s deaf
Then you shout at the linesman.

You often run a marathon, eight you’ve done altogether.
You take your time on the hills you climb,
Succeeding, whatever the weather.

Every week you go for a jog, it can be a slow or a fast one.
If you need a pee, and there’s no tree,
You always make sure it’s a quick run!

You like to drive in Liz’s car, be careful when you’re reversing.
You hit the house, where you live with your spouse.
You did plenty of cursing!

In Canada, you lost your phone when you went for a ride in a small boat.
But trips on a lake, can be a mistake.
If you fall in the water, phones don’t float!

You like to go on coastal walks, clambering over the stiles
You go with your mates and have lots of debates,
Walking for miles and miles.

On a recent trip to Wales with Bri, we heard your sad tale of woe-oe
In the mud and the muck, your tyres got stuck
From a tractor you needed a big tow.

We wish you good luck for the year ahead, we hope you have a good one.
If the men keep in line, you’ll be just fine.
There’ll be lots of laughter and good fun.
